NLA Nationality Breakdown

In the 1990s and early 2000s, the top Swiss ice hockey league relied still largely on domestic players, and the share of Swiss players on team rosters exceeded 80 percent. After Russia's attack on Ukraine, the appeal of KHL dropped, and the number of Finnish and Swedish players in particular increased as they signed contracts to Switzerland. Over the past few seasons, the proportion of Swiss players has dropped to less than 70 percent.

The chart below shows the relative proportions of different nationalities in the Swiss top league since the 1990-1991 season. Season specific data used in the chart can be found on the nationality totals statistics pages.
